A local counseling agency referred Matt...

A 13 year old sixth grader, to Ascent because of behavior problems at school that began after his mother passed away.  Matt was diagnosed with ODD and ADHD, and his only supports were his father and his father's girlfriend.  He had been in and out of alternative school for the past couple of years.  His principal expressed little hope for Matt, sharing that there had not been a single week that Matt had not been sent out of the classroom for behavior problems.  Ascent began working with Matt's principal and his counselor, as well as referring him to the Family Support Organization (FSO). If Matt did not improve his grades, he would have to repeat the sixth grade, so the team focused strategies on his grades.  Three days a week the FSO visited Matt's house for tutoring, and his counselor met him on the other days.  Soon after, Matt's father shared his son's report card, showing that Matt passed and would be promoted to 7th grade the next year.  Matt had not had a single behavior incident or conduct mark the last three weeks of school.
